Isaac Cruz Stops Nestor Bravo; Welterweight Bout with Ryan Garcia Next?
In his latest tour of duty, Mexico bruiser Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz snagged his first fight and victory of the year. To grab that win, Cruz defeated Nestor Bravo (24-2, 17 KO’s) by way of sixth round knockout, and successfully defending his interim WBC super lightweight title. Cruz bounces back into the win column following his December 6, 2025, majority draw against Lamont Roach.
While conducting his post-fight interview, Pitbull took the time to express interest in two different fighters.
“I think this performance showed everybody and turned their heads. I want to fight Dalton Smith or the winner of that fight, but I think that everyone here saw what I can do … Hey Ryan [Garcia], I’m here, my next fight is for you! Come on Ryan, come on!”
Currently, Dalton “Thunder” Smith (19-0, 14 KO’s) is the WBC super lightweight champion. He will face Alberto Puello this upcoming October 24. Naturally, competing for the full title in the division is a handsome carrot to chase. Nevertheless, WBC welterweight champion “King Ry” Ryan Garcia (26-2, 21 KO’s) appears to be Cruz’s first choice.
Garcia was last in action when he successfully stopped UK import Conor Benn by way of second round knockout. Obviously, this is no small feat for Cruz because, if taken up on the fight, he will have to matriculate into Garcia’s division and test the waters at welterweight. While Cruz versus Garcia would make for a fan-friendly, all action duel, it’s not very likely to be next.
Garcia is already under heavy criticism for not rematching Devin Haney or attempting to avenge his loss to Rolando Romero. So, with all the potential and unfinished business within the 147-pound weight division, it’s not a great bet that King Ry will give the nod to Cruz next. With this being said, let’s sit back and see what Team Cruz follows up with.
