Caleb Plant Still Angling for a Fight with Jermall Charlo
At this point, it’s been well over two years since WBC middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (32-0, 22 KO’s) has competed in the ring. It’s actually somewhat shocking that he’s been allowed to keep his title for this staggering amount of time. Regardless of his nonexistent activity level, Charlo remains an easily recognizable name in the sport and does not lack for fighters who want to test their might with him. One such boxer is one-time super middleweight champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (22-2, 13 KO’s).
In the case of Plant however, the fact that he wants a shot at Charlo should not come as a shock. While both were in attendance at the recent Crawford versus Spence Jr. prizefight, they wound up having a sour interaction. In short, Sweethands says that Hit Man tugged on his beard in front of a crowd of people which resulted in Plant slapping Charlo like he was doing his best How High impression of Baby Powder. Unfortunately for Charlo, the strike was caught on tape and has since gone viral.
SO, WHAT’S UP FOOL?!
For his part, Plant is coming off the second loss of his career to David Benavidez which took place this past March. In his only other defeat, Sweethands came up short versus undisputed super middleweight champion Saul Alvarez.
To his credit, Plant has only lost to top tier opposition and certainly had his moments shining brightly against Benavidez and Alvarez. Therefore, it remains in alignment with his past fight selection that he goes for another big name and big fight.
Now, as it’s been far past two plus years, we all must wait and see when and if Jermall Charlo will return to action. Provided that he does, there is no question about him having at least one former champion itching to occupy that opposite corner come fight night. So, stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing to hear the latest twist and turn in this growing feud!
