Porter to defend WBC welterweight title against Ugas in March!
Newly crowned WBC champion Shawn Porter will make his first title defense against Yordenis Ugas, March 9 in Las Vegas.
This fight shouldn’t come as a surprise since the WBC mandated Ugas as a mandatory along with former champion Keith Thurman. Although, the leading story for champion for the past few weeks was he would face Thurman next in a unification.
In his last fight, Ugas easily out pointed Argentina’s Cesar Miguel Barrionuevo, winning a wide unanimous decision. That fight took place on the under-card of Porter’s win over Danny Garcia which granted him the WBC crown.
If Porter is able to defeat Ugas, the Thurman unification rematch may happen or IBF champion Errol Spence assuming he gets by Mikey Garcia March 16.
