Raiko Santana Picks Up Controversial Win Over Lorenzo Simpson
Super middleweight Lorenzo “Truck” Simpson (14-2, 8KO) was robbed of a victory against Raiko Santana (11-4, 6KO).
After taking some hard countershots from Santana in the opening round, Truck controlled the next few rounds with a solid body attack. The Maryland native made the adjustment in real-time against the Cuban by landing soft touches before unloading with hard righthands.
Santana didn’t go away without a fight and started landing the different variations of the righthand. He was able to turn the contest into a phonebooth and was landing good shots to the body.
Yet, Simpson was comfortable fighting on the inside and continued to punish the body of Santana. Furthermore, he started using the uppercut, taking advantage of his opponent coming in with the head down.
Down the stretch, Simpson closed the show strong with continuous hooks to the body followed by uppercuts upstairs.
When the final bell sounded, one judge scored it 78-74 for Simpson as the other two turned in ridiculous scores of 76-76 even. In the overtime round, Santana pulled out the victory by split decision.
