Jose Ramirez vs Viktor Postol reportedly canceled!
3kingsboxing.com has learned that unified junior welterweight champion Jose Ramirez’s (25-0, 17KOs) title defense against former WBC junior welterweight champion Viktor Postol (32-2, 12KOs) on February 1 in China has been canceled.
The coronavirus outbreak has caused a major uproar and panic among the country. This unfortunately has caused the Ramirez vs Postol fight to be axed. The motive is to protect the fighters and everyone involved in the promotion from contracting the virus.
Ramirez (27), was looking to satisfy his mandatory while also enhancing his resume with another former world champion under his belt. A win here would have also setup a possible undisputed title bout with WBA/IBF champion Josh Taylor later in the year.
For Postol (36), he was looking to become a two-time champion and unified champion for the first time.
According to The Athletic, Bob Arum fully expects to reschedule the bout but has no word on when that will be.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
