The scheduled bout between WBC light welterweight champion Jose Ramirez and #13 ranked contender Danny O’Connor is off!
Sources have told 3kingsboxing.com that O’Connor was apparently hospitalized in an attempt to cut weight. The card will still take place in Fresno, California but the events will be shifted.
The main even will be undefeated Lithuanian Egidijus Kavaliauskas vs Dominican Juan Carlos Abreu. The rest of the televised card is as follows:
- Co-Main Event: Undefeated junior lightweight Andy Vences vs Frank De Alba.
- Undercard: Heavyweight contender Andy Ruiz vs Kevin Johnson.
This is definitely a blow to Ramirez as this would have marked his first attempt to defend the WBC title. In addition, the location of the fight was set to be a homecoming event for the new champion.
There is no word on what Top Rank has in store for Ramirez going forward as of now. We will keep you updated as the story develops further.
