Ramirez vs Prograis order could come soon
Earlier this week Bob Arum said that he wants a possible co-feature card with newly minted WBC junior welterweight champion Jose Ramirez and interim champion Regis Prograis fighting in separate bouts so that a potential fight between the two could be build a following.
Last weekend in New York City, Ramirez (22-0, 16 KOs) won the vacant WBC junior welterweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Amir Imam. Prograis (21-0, 18 KOs) captured the interim-WBC title with a two-round destruction of former world champion Julius Indongo just one week prior.
Prograis originally stated he wanted the fight to happen next but was quoted as saying earlier today that he would consider waiting.
According to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman a fight between Ramirez and Prograis will be next. He also revealed that the WBC will order for the two sides to begin negotiations soon.
“The condition we put in for the two fights said the winners were going to face each other. Next fight we will see Jose Ramirez and Regis Prograis face each other.” said Sulaiman.
If no deal is reached, then the contest will go to a purse bid according to Sulaiman. Prograis is promoted by Lou DiBella, while Ramirez is of course with Top Rank.
