Gilberto Ramirez Wants Jai Opetaia Next

Unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (48-1, 30KO) and IBF champion Jai Opetaia (28-0, 22KO) need to happen next. As Zurdo picked up a win over two-time champion Yuniel Dorticos by unanimous decision

Zurdo started slow and was getting hit repeatedly by the right hand. He adjusted and turned the fight around with fast combination punches. In addition, the Mexican used those feet to create space before landing shots at the body. After his opponent was deducted a point for low blows, Ramirez was awarded a unanimous decision victory.

The fight that everyone wants to see next is against the IBF champion, Opetaia. During the post-fight interview, he sent a message to the Aussie.

“Yeah, that’s the fight that I want. I’m the king. Make sure you get my phone and call me.”

These two champions have been on a collision course and hopefully, they will meet next. Matchroom Boxing’s Chairman Eddie Hearn is on record calling for the fight. In this author’s opinion, Opetaia will win the fight.

The IBF champion is the bigger puncher, extremely athletic, and uses angles while throwing punches in bunches. Moreover, he has faced far better competition.

Ramirez can’t afford to allow Opetaia to get off to a fast start early. The next couple of months will be interesting to see if the fight gets made.
