Floyd Schofield Looking to Stevenson vs Zepeda Winner Next
Top lightweight contender Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield (19-0, 13KO) could fight the winner of WBC champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson vs William “Camaron” Zepeda.
On June 28, Kid Austin ran over former IBF junior lightweight champion Tevin Farmer in one round. The Texan came out like a ball of fire and landed hard shots early. After being dropped twice, Farmer’s night came to an end early as the referee stopped the fight.
Immediately following the contest, the question was asked: what’s next? Schofield’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, wasted no time in revealing the plan.
“He put everybody on notice from now on . . . The winner of William Zepeda and Shakur.”
Schofield took a lot of heat for pulling out of the fight against Fearless earlier in the year. Several fans and pundits didn’t believe he was sick but ducked the WBC champion. If Stevenson is victorious over Zepeda, the two will look to engage in combat once again.
Fearless was paying attention to the fight and took to social media telling everyone to pump the brakes.
Schofield needed this type of performance, especially with a title shot possibly next.
