Raul Curiel Wins MD Over Quinton Randall; Title Shot Near?
In his latest tour of duty, welterweight fighter Raul “Cugar” Curiel (18-0-1, 14 KO’s) defeated Quinton Randall (17-4-1, 4 KO’s) by way of majority decision. When the cards were read, Curiel prevailed to the tune of 95-95, 97-93 and 100-90.
This was a solid win for the Mexican fighter who currently ranks high with the WBA (#1) and WBC (#3). With these standings, Curiel is in a perfect position to press for a number of interesting bouts. Obviously, given his #1 (WBA) ranking, the names that jump out first are WBA 147-pound champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero (17-2, 13 KO’s) and regular WBA welterweight champion Jack “El Gato” Catterall (33-2, 14 KO’s).
At the present moment, Romero is not available due to his upcoming August 22 duel with two-division champion Teofimo Lopez. Following that bout, we will have to see who wins and what they want to do at that point. This is not the case however, for the regular champ Catterall. El Gato was last in action this past May 23, when he beat Shakhram Giyasov by unanimous decision.
With his latest win under his belt, it will be interesting to see who Team Curiel gets in the ring next!
