Kali Reis Hopes Chantelle Cameron Gets Stay Busy Fight

When Regular WBA and WBO super lightweight boxer Kali “KO Mequinonoag” Reis (19-7-1, 5 KO’s) next steps into the ring, it will be to stage a unification bout. That meaningful prizefight will come against the challenge of IBF and WBC super lightweight champion Chantelle “Il Capo” Cameron (15-0, 8 KO’s). Unfortunately for her, as she explained to Boxing Social, Reis has had her return to the ring delayed by an undisclosed health complication.

“Right now I am just dealing with some personal health issues that caught up with me, so we are just making sure that I am 100% because I would never want to go into any fight at an elite level against Chantelle without 100%. I wouldn’t want to do that to myself, her or boxing. So we’re definitely going to have this unification bout this year. We just got to push it back a little bit. So stay tuned for a date. Sometime this summer would be great!”

In her last at bat, Reis edged Jessica Camara by way of a split decision win. For many, this was a controversial win that a substantial amount of people felt should have gone the other way. Naturally, KO Mequinonoag is firm in her assertion that the correct person won the contest. Yet, she is not willing to meet unnecessary defeat by rushing to the ring too early. Understanding the situation though, Reis would not take any issue with Cameron deciding that she wanted to mix it up with someone in the meantime.

“She wants to stay busy, stay active. So I think for her to get a fight in between or whatever she needs to do to keep herself busy is great. That means that she is one of the real few fighters that we have!”

In many regards, the men can take a great deal of notes from today’s female pugilists. There is no question that the women are putting on better more meaningful fights than the men such as Reis versus Cameron. Yet, even this sentiment that Reis is showing Il Capo is rather refreshing. Let’s hope that KO Mequinonoag recovers quickly and no unforeseen mishap mar this upcoming bout to determine the undisputed champion!
