Resendiz Overwhelms Hurd; Garcia Stops Vidal on Figueroa vs Magsayo Undercard

This middleweight thriller saw Armando Resendiz (14-1, 10KO) announce himself to the boxing world after defeating former unified 154-pound champion Jarrett “Swift” Hurd (24-3, 16KO). These guys fought at a furious pace as the former unified champion found a home for the uppercuts. However, Resendiz kept coming forward, landing thudding right hands and body shots. The young challenger landed a hard left hook that opened Hurd’s mouth. This forced the ringside doctor to stop the fight before the final round. Swift will have to think about possibly retiring. This was the second loss in a row to lesser competition. Resendiz will now be the talk of the weekend with the biggest win of his career.

ELIJAH GARCIA SCORES A SENSATIONAL STOPPAGE

At middleweight, young amateur standout Elijah Garcia (14-0, 12KO) scored a sensational stoppage after early struggles against Amilcar Vidal (16-1, 12KO). The fighters kicked things off going to work in a phonebooth battle. Vidal looked to impose his will against the younger opponent by landing thudding body shots. The 19-year-old Garcia ignored having a bloody nose and remained composed under pressure to retaliate with a straight left hand. In round four, Garcia landed a powerful left hook that stopped Vidal’s aggression. The young challenger continued to unload punches as Vidal dropped to the canvas. The referee waved off the fight. If this was a sign of things to come, Garcia proved that age is nothing but a number.
