Roiman Villa Believes He Can Expose Jaron Ennis
On July 9, Roiman “Flaco de Oro” Villa (26-1, 24 KOs) will take on IBF Interim welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis (30-0, 27 KOs) in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Showtime. Villa is eager to lay the leather on Ennis and is fully confident he will have his hand raised in victory.
READY FOR WAR
Many insiders consider Ennis a rising star in the sport and the boogeyman of the welterweight division. But Villa doesn’t care about hype. During an interview with Ring Magazine, the 30-year-old from Rosario, Venezuela said he jumped at the opportunity to face the highly-regarded Ennis.
“This is the fight I wanted. My promoter (Sampson Lewkowicz) gave us the option to have a tune-up fight, but I did not want any other fighter. To be the best, you have to fight the best fighter, and I am ready to fight anyone.”
Villa’s last outing occurred in January 2023, when he scored a surprising majority decision win over previously undefeated Rashidi “Speedy” Ellis. In that fight, Villa overcame the fast hands and feet of Ellis. He’s facing a similarly fast fighter in Ennis who also carries two-fisted power.
NOT IMPRESSED
But Flaco de Oro is a fighter who can punch in his own right. Full of confidence, Villa is not dazzled by Ennis whatsoever.
“He is a good fighter, but I know I am stronger than him and that he has never fought a fighter like me. I am ready to use this as an advantage. I am not impressed by his skills or afraid of his power.”
The Venezuelan wants to win a world title and is willing to punch through anyone who gets in the way of achieving his goal. He feels that Boots is just another fighter who he plans to take care of and promises he will be ready to deliver on July 9.
“In this fight, I am ready to go strong every round. [I’m] ready to give the boxing fans a huge fight.”
