Ryan Garcia Excited for April 9 Ring Return
At one point in time, lightweight boxer Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (21-0, 18 KO’s) was among the most talked about fighters in the lightweight division. Technically speaking, he still is. Though, his star has been greatly diminished by pulling out of fights last minute, promising bouts that never happened, and shying away from some of his tougher opposition.
Now, after more than a year out of action, King Ry is set to make his ring return. For his first assignment back, Garcia will take on once-defeated Ghanaian fighter Emmanuel “The Gameboy” Tagoe (32-1, 15 KO’s). The two will collide on April 9 under the roof of the Alamodome located in San Antonio, Texas.
There is no question that he is still a major player in the 135-pound division. However, Garcia has placed a shady cloud of doubt over his own head. Obviously, King Ry is more eager than anyone to resume his career and get the dirt off his name. As many fighters are rather reluctant to face him, Garcia is very appreciative to Tagoe for accepting the fight.
ATTEMPT #2!
The bout with Tagoe is actually not a new notion. The two were actually ordered to fight one another by the WBO well back in 2020. Instead of fighting Tagoe however, Garcia went on to face Luke Campbell who was simultaneously presented as the WBC’s mandated fight. Left without a dance partner, the Gameboy would go on to fight and beat Mason Menard by majority decision later in the year.
Clearly, Tagoe did not hold any hard feelings over the matter. When presented with the option to duel Garcia, he jumped at the chance. Yet, that should not come as a grand surprise. Even with his reputation as sullied as it is, King Ry would make for a tremendous name on his resume. Garcia would easily be his best win and would drastically improve his professional reality overnight. Therefore, from the Gameboy’s perspective, this is one monumentally important prizefight.
WHAT’S IT GOING TO BE?
This upcoming test of might versus Tagoe is just as imperative for Garcia to win as the Ghanaian. When they do go head-to-head, it will only be the third time that Tagoe has fought professionally in the US. Minus any real buzz in the states and with virtually no readily recognizable names on his resume, Tagoe is in the perfect position to crush what little credibility that Garcia has left.
On the other hand, provided that Garcia collects his scalp in impressive fashion, then King Ry will very well likely breathe a much needed gust of life back into his ailing career. So, while this may seem like a throw away ‘get back busy’ fight, there is actually an awful lot at stake here. Thankfully, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report how everything unfolds step by step!
