Roman Defeats McDonnell; Retains WBA Title

Roman defends his WBA Title with a knockout win

WBA Bantamweight champion Daniel Roman (25-2-1) put his title on the line against the tough Gavin McDonnell (20-1-2, 5 KOs).

The first three rounds showed the champion using his jab and landing hooks to the body. While McDonnell had good moments in a “phone booth” type of fight, he was arguably being out-worked.

In the middle rounds, the champion turned up the pressure and started adding more power shots to the body. However, McDonnell would prove too tough by taking and giving some nice counters. Roman still manages to answer back with shots that even caught the attention of the crowd.

By the tenth round, fans witnessed the pressure of Roman allow him to cash in! He landed a straight right perfectly on the chin. He then followed with a barrage of unanswered shots on a very hurt McDonnell until he could no longer stand.

He made the count, however, the referee saw fit to wave the fight off.

Roman successfully makes his third title defense. There is a possibility he could be looking at a possible unification bout with Isaac Dogboe, Rey Vargas or TJ Doheny!
