Rolando Romero to Rematch Jackson Marinez

Well it looks like the brand new interim WBA world lightweight champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero (12-0, 10 KO’s) is heading to his first professional rematch. After going the full twelve rounds with the versatile Jackson “El Fenix” Marinez (19-1, 7 KO’s) this past August 15, Romero was awarded an extremely sketchy unanimous decision win.

All the on-air commentators on the SHOWTIME broadcast thought he lost, along with 77% of the polled viewers. Not to mention the small army of professional fighters who took to social media to kick dirt on his performance. Now, Team Romero is ready to strike back!

LET’S DO IT AGAIN!!

During the post-fight conference, Rolly affirmed he would give Marinez a rematch. So far, the Money Team fighter is proving to be a man of his word. In an effort to combat the negative backlash, Mayweather Promotions bigwig Leonard Ellerbe announced through his Twitter account that Rolando Romero would indeed take on Jackson Marinez in an immediate rematch to clear up any lingering doubts.

If the fight happens, this will be a good look for Romero; that is, assuming he does MUCH better in the second contest! Granted he wins convincingly this time, Rolly would have gone a long way to injecting far more credibility into his name and reputation. If he loses however, it will be a long time before industry insiders take the brash newcomer seriously. So no matter how you slice it, this is an immensely important fight in his still budding career.
