Andy Ruiz splits with Manny Robles!
Nearly two months after an horrendous showing in arguably the biggest fight in his career, former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr (33-2, 22KOs) has split with the man that helped guide him to heavyweight glory, Manny Robles.
On December 7, Ruiz was given a boxing lesson by the man he knocked out in seven rounds in June 2019, Anthony Joshua (23-1, 21KOs).
It was evident that he had grew content with his new found success which resulted in him weighing in fifteen and one-half pouds more (283lbs) for the rematch with Joshua after being claiming he was not slacking and that he had been in intense training in an attempt to be leaner.
Clearly Robles had lost the ear of his fighter as he ignored his trainers wishes of coming into training in July to start proper preparation. Instead Ruiz would show up for camp in September overweight and obviously not ready to defend his titles.
This move comes as a surprise as the former champion was very apologetic in the aftermath of the rematch. He even acknowledged that he should’ve been in camp prior to when he arrived.
It’ll be interesting to see who Ruiz brings in as his new lead guy.
