Madison Square Garden will once again host Andy Ruiz vs Anthony Joshua 2.
3kingsboxing has just learned according to a British based media outlet, one more piece of Andy Ruiz v Anthony Joshua 2 has fallen into place. While the date is still unresolved, we have gotten word that the meaningful rematch will take place in Madison Square Garden on either November 16 or December 14.
The historic MSG venue is where Joshua initially met his crushing defeat at the hands of Ruiz and stripped of his unified status.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, was very adamant about staging the high priority “do-over” in their UK stronghold. This is not surprising. At the moment, Joshua is the crown jewel of the Matchroom Boxing franchise.
His stunning defeat was a devastating blow to their overall brand, therefore, Hearn wants re-establish his lead fighter as the most belt holding heavyweight champion around.
He understands that the best odds of accomplishing this is back in their UK comfort zone.
Joshua has other plans.
To his credit, the former champion is seriously daring to be great. His opting to immediately return to the Garden and face his first major professional demon does deserve credit. Regardless of the moxie he is showing, there are a large army of folks who believe that this is a foolhardy decision.
The premiere bout with Ruiz was the first time that Joshua had fought outside of the UK and the common belief is this greatly contributed to the loss.
If he can right his wrongs in MSG then he deserves a massive amount of respect for the audacious act. However, If Joshua is toppled anew, then you can possibly stick a fork in his career. Without question, when it comes to Joshua and his team, the steaks could not be any higher!
These are thrilling times in the heavyweight division!
