Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia Confirmed For April 22
For months, representatives for reigning WBA Regular lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) and Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) have been trying to hammer out and finalize a deal. Now, according to Davis’ social media, he and Garcia have signed contracts to face one another on April 22 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
EAGER TO FIGHT
After talking about fighting each other for several years, serious negotiations began in November 2022.
Tank has evolved into one of boxing’s cash cows. The pride of Baltimore is a bona fide pay-per-view star. Following an eight-round stoppage of Hector Luis Garcia in January 2023, the lightweight champ said his focus is now on preparing for Ryan Garcia.
With his endorsements and a large social media following, King Ry has become a mainstream entity. He was to have a tune-up bout against Mercito Gesta but decided to forgo it with the thought process of going immediately into training for Davis.
Promoters can smell a big-money fight from a mile away. This talked-about showdown falls under that category. Davis vs Garcia is more than resolving a long-held feud or settling once-and-for-all who is the better fighter. This is the kind of match-up boxing fans have been asking for. Expect many of them to not hesitate on spending money for this PPV event.
