Luis Nery Calls For the Fulton vs Inoue Winner After Besting Hovhannisyan
In an early Fight of the Year candidate, two-division champion Luis “Pantera” Nery (34-1, 26KO) won a back-and-forth war against one-time title challenger Azat “Crazy A” Hovhannisyan (21-4, 17KO). Afterward, he called to face the winner of the upcoming mega-fight between unified champion Stephen Fulton and former undisputed bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue.
This WBC super bantamweight title eliminator fight was a shootout from the beginning of the opening bell. Nery’s power was on full display as he bloodied Crazy A’s face with several hard shots. However, Hovhannisyan fought back with punishing body shots that created opportunities to land hard shots upstairs as well.
After scoring a knockdown in the tenth, Nery unloaded a barrage of punches in the eleventh round that forced the referee to stop the fight.
BRING ON THE WINNER OF STEPHEN FULTON VS NAOYA INOUE
During the post-fight interview, Pantera wasted no time in making it clear that the winner between Fulton – Inoue is who he wants next.
“(translated from spanish) I want Inoue, I want Fulton. I feel ready to go for the world championship, whether it’s Fulton or Inoue.”
Nery has had to climb back into title contention since losing a unification against Brandon Figueroa in 2021. In 2022, he defeated Carlos Castro via split decision in the first title eliminator and scored a savage stoppage against David Carmona. Furthermore, he won both the WBC Silver and WBO Inter-Continental titles, which helped speed up the process in getting back into the title picture.
The Mexican fighter can relax and wait to fight the winner of Fulton – Inoue.
