Ryan Garcia Turns Away Another Potential Opponent
To describe the future of “King” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) as “unknown” is a giant understatement. No one knows what’s next for the junior welterweight contender, as he has turned down a fight with one-time unified junior 140-pound champion Jose Ramirez.
TURNING FIGHTS DOWN LEFT AND RIGHT
Ramirez recently signed a multi-fight deal with Golden Boy. The company’s CEO, Oscar De La Hoya, hoped to stage a fight between Ramirez and Garcia. But things are never that simple with Garcia. He went on social media with the following post to decline a matchup with the former world champion.
In December 2023, Garcia said he was targeting a fight with the current WBC junior welterweight champion, Devin “The Dream” Haney. But the California native had a change of heart and set his sights on a battle against WBA champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero. Claiming that negotiations were moving slowly, Garcia announced that a fight with Rolly would not occur.
ANIMOSITY BEHIND THE SCENES
From the outside, it seems the crux of Garcia’s issues continues to be his ongoing beef with Golden Boy. It’s known throughout the boxing community that they’ve been at odds for several years. In the lead-up to his stoppage win over Oscar Duarte in December 2023, Garcia blasted the promotional company, saying they didn’t have his best interest at hand.
Boxing fans are left scratching their heads when it comes to Garcia. Can the 25-year-old get things back in order and settle on an opponent? As it stands right now, his career is in complete chaos.
