This news comes out of nowhere, as many people, myself included, were looking forward to this bout. In his announcement post on his Instagram page, he cited his need to manage his health and well-being. His post will lead many to wonder and search for what could be the issue for his withdrawal. Did he suffer an injury during preparation for the bout? Maybe he just needs a break, mentally. Regardless of what is his reasoning, people will want to know.
For Fortuna, this puts him in an unfavorable position. The winner of this fight was to become the mandatory challenger to WBC champion Devin Haney. For what it is worth, Garcia has been linked to Gervonta Davis and Manny Pacquiao. Ultimately, neither fight came to fruition and pulling out of this fight will raise questions. Is it truly his health he wants to focus on, or are there other things that has the California native’s mind preoccupied?
