Ryan Gardner Comfortably Decisions Archie Sharp
In a high-stakes junior lightweight contest with possible title implications, Ryan “The Piranha” Garner (16-0, 8KO) took away Archie “Sharpshooter” Sharp’s (25-1, 9KO) undefeated record.
Sharpshooter used that long jab to control the fight in the early rounds. His footwork and defense were on point as he continued to get out of the way of big shots and landed hard combinations.
Garner managed to pressure Sharp against the ropes and landed solid body shots. However, he kept that head on the centerline, which made it an easy target for repeated counter shots.
The second half of the contest became a dogfight as Sharp stayed against the ropes looking to counter. Yet, The Piranha used veteran tactics that turned the battle in his favor with body shots and uppercuts.
Garner hurt the taller challenger with repeated straight right hands. But Sharp continued to take advantage of his opponent’s lack of head movement to land those sharp counters.
It’s worth pointing out that the referee never warned Garner for constantly rubbing his glove and head on a cut over Sharp’s left eye.
After closing out the final rounds strong, Garner got the victory as one judge scored it 98-92, and two had it 97-93.
