Selby Boxes His Way To Unanimous Decision
In the co main on BT Sports Fight Night from the Copper Box Arena in London, England Lee Selby ( 25-1, 9 KO’s) faced Eduardo Ramirez (20-0, 7 KO’s) in a 12 round featherweight bout. Selby is the IBF featherweight hampion but Ramirez failed to make weight so the title wasn’t on the line.
The champion started the fight working his jab and using his movement to feel out his opponent who kept coming forward squared up. The second was more of the same with Ramirez landing a few more shots. In the third round Selby came out on his back foot pumping the jab while Ramirez landed some shots on Selby who seemed to leave himself open a bit.
In the fourth Selby started to box better landing his shots and getting out of range while landing cleanly on Ramirez. By the sixth Selby seemed more confident planting his feet more and landing more of his power shots.
Selby kept getting the better of the exchanges on the inside and outside. Ramirez proved to be tough as he just kept coming forward, trying to show that he wasn’t finished just yet.
Going into the back end of the fight Selbyappearedto be in control outboxing Ramirezandlanding the cleaner punches. Ramirez showed tons of heart having his moments when he could catch Selby staying put a little too long. If Ramirez had pop it could of made the fight a little more interesting. Selby was clearly the better boxer but Ramirez was determined to keep coming and close the gap on the fight.
By the tenth and eleventh Selby seemed to regain control of the fight and was just able topull outaunanimous decision (118-110, 119-109, 116-112). Looks like Josh Warringtoncould benextupfor Lee Selby.
