Shakur Stevenson Wrongly Accused of Ducking Cruz and Schofield
The new narrative, when it comes to WBC lightweight champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson, is that he doesn’t want to fight top contenders Andy Cruz or Floyd Schofield Jr.
This is an absurd statement and not even worth talking about, especially considering Schofield pulled out of the fight with Stevenson early this year due to illness. These are the kind of things that are killing the sport. Those pushing that narrative should have done a historical check first before mentioning Schofield.
When it comes to Cruz, he was going after one-time champion and amateur rival Keyshawn Davis. The Cuban Olympian has currently been hot on the heels of IBF champion Raymond Muratalla, after winning an IBF title eliminator against Hironori Mishiro by stoppage.

Both Cruz and Stevenson fight under the Matchroom Boxing banner, so it’s best to allow the Cuban to grab the IBF title. Afterwards, they can make a huge unification worth a lot of money for both fighters in 2026.
Furthermore, Stevenson has been attempting to secure a fight against WBA champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis. However, his current legal issues may keep the Baltimore native out of the ring until next year.
In this author’s opinion, Fearless and Schofield should fight next, considering the young, undefeated contender called for it. Boxing fans can only hope this time the fight takes place without any surprises.
