Oleksandr Usyk Should Face Joseph Parker If He Doesn’t Retire
Two-time undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk could retire or face one-time champion Joseph Parker next. The Ukrainian is coming off a spectacular fifth-round rematch stoppage over Daniel Dubois, and has been ordered to face Parker by the WBO.
Usyk has decided to take some time off for family and will contemplate what to do next. During the post-fight interview, he mentioned the names of Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Parker. To be honest, no one wants to see a trilogy with Fury or Joshua, so the only logical fight is Parker.
The New Zealander remains one of the last former champions that Usyk hasn’t fought yet. In addition, he was robbed of fighting for the title when IBF champion Dubois pulled out sick. Parker was placed on the backburner while the IBF champion went on to fight for the undisputed crown. There is no other challenger more deserving of a title shot than the former one-time WBO champion.
In this author’s opinion, the undisputed champion has earned the right to retire and ride off into the sunset. However, if he decides to collect one more paycheck, it should be against Parker.
