Claressa Shields pays homage to Cecilia Braekhus
If you ask anyone about their thoughts on the self-proclaimed G.W.O.A.T (Greatest Woman Of All Time) Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (10-0, 2ko), undoubtedly the reviews would be mixed. Many would say she is way too bold, brash, mouthy, and disrespectful. However, you can’t say the undisputed middleweight champion doesn’t love the sport and has embraced being the face of women’s boxing.
Now no one will disagree that the Flint champion is extremely hawkish on social media; she will go after you in an uncountable second if you come talking trash. It is clear that inside or outside the ring, she is ready for whatever people think they want.
THE HISTORY
However, the three-divisional champion gave light to a side that people rarely get to see. It is well on record the long beef “T-Rex” has had with the former undisputed champion Cecilia “First Lady” Braekhus (36-1, 9ko). The two had a serious social media beef all over Twitter.
Shields has been wanting the scalp of the “First Lady”. The reason the Flint native traveled north in weight was to lure Braekhus into a fight. Things really took a bad turn when the former undisputed champion said she got a better deal from DAZN. Then there was how hard the undisputed champion went in on Braekhus’ “Mini-tournament” claim.
PAYING RESPECTS TO A FALLEN FOE
So you would think that at the demise of her arch-rival, Shields would take to social media to boast. For the first time in her thirteen-year career, Braekhus’ hand wasn’t raised and she showed absolute grace and humility to the victor Jessica “CasKILLA” McCaskill (9-2, 3ko).
The Flint champion enjoyed the fight and congratulated CasKilla on the victory.
Moreover, it was how she paid homage to her arch-rival at a low point of her career which shows how much, regardless of it being men or women, fighters have a certain level of respect for each other.
