ShoBox Undercard: Results and Recap

Mattice remains undefeated

In the co-feature of the ShoBox card tonight from Sloan, Iowa Thomas Mattice improved to 11-0 with 9 KOs stopping Rolando Chinea (15-2-1,6KOs) in the seventh round. Chinea started well overwhelming Mattice with constant pressure coming straight forward and letting his hands go. Mattice was able to counter but not nearly enough to win him rounds.

Chinea would come forward with little to no head movement getting caught cleanly throughout rounds of the bout. By the fifth round it seemed like Chinea was in control simply on volume punches, Mattice would counter but not nearly enough to make a difference in the round. In the seventh Mattice was finally able to catch Chinea with a beautiful short right that hurt Chinea. From there Mattice was able to pin Chinea against the ropes letting his hands go and landing some big shots, as the referee was stepping in to stop the fight Chinea fell onto the canvas. It was a case of a young fighter having terrible defense Chinea just got hit flushed way too many times.

Earlier on the undercard, Montana Love remained undefeated (9-0, 4KOs) defeating Sam Teah (12-2,5KOs) by majority decision. The fight started with Love using his movement and controlling the pace of the fight. Teah seemed hesitant to let his hands go and struggled finding the range due to the fact that Love gave him angles & found a home for the right hand all night.

By the sixth round Love seemed to be in control catching Teah coming in countering and was coming in and out with not much in traffic return. Teah landed his best punch of the Fight and was able to pin Love against the ropes and let his hands go. The success was short lived as in the seventh round Love seemed to hurt Teah and was able to dominate the round using combination punching. In the final round it was Love letting his hands go walking Teah down. In the end it was a majority decision ( the 76-76, 78-74 2x) but Love seemed to be in control all night. It must be noted the Love took the fight on short notice and had a good showing.
