Zolani Tete withdraws from WBSS semifinal with due to a shoulder injury!
The April 27th DAZN card just took a major hit!
WBO bantamweight champion Zolani Tete (28-3, 21KOs) has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled WBSS semifinal bout with Nonito Donaire(39-5, 25KOs) due to an shoulder injury he sustained in training camp. At the moment the severity of the injury is unknown.
As for Donaire, the event could still move forward as he could face Stephon Young (18-1-3, 7KOs), who’s scheduled to face Nikolai Potapov on the under-card. Young is a former NABA champion who took his first career loss in March 2018 against rising Filipino prospect Reymart Gaballo in a bid for the WBA interim title. He won his return bout in October 2018 by unanimous decision.
While not condemning Young, the news of Tete’s withdrawal is disappointing to the fans and stakeholders in this event.
For now wewill have to wait to see if the WBSS semi-final bout will be rescheduled later this year.
