Abnormal behavior from Errol Spence Jr after recovery from his near death experience.
On October 10, unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (26-0, 21 KO’s) was involved in a horrific automobile accident.
When the story first broke the only initial information stated that Spence had flipped his Ferrari over several times and was ejected from the vehicle in the process. As a result Spence was immediately rushed to the ICU. Accompanying the grim briefing were a series of pictures depicting the mangled vehicle.
Having been provided such scant information the boxing world hoped for the best, but were bracing for the worst. Later the same day video footage surfaced which presented a portion of the actual accident.
When fight fans saw the white Ferrari bouncing across the screen in a dusty ball of chaos, it truly felt like very tragic news was certain to follow.
Miraculously, toward the end of the same day of the accident reports that Spence was going to be fine began pouring in. These preliminary updates stated that the Truth had only suffered cuts, bruises and broken teeth.
More importantly, the underlining message was that Spence was going to walk away fairly unscathed.
Despite the favorable updates Team Spence, and Errol Spence himself, remained deathly quiet on the matter. Sort of.
For the first time since the accident Spence took to his Instagram account to give something in the way of a status update. In the truncated post, he reiterated that he emerged from the potentially fatal situation without acquiring any broken bones and called himself a savage.
Considering the welterweight champion shook the accident off like Bruce Willis’s character in Unbreakable, a bit of boasting was perfectly natural.
What does seem somewhat odd is the fact that quicker than Usain Bolt could run the 400 meter dash, Spence removed the upbeat post. Why this was done is anyone’s guess.
Without any other firsthand information to go on the collective boxing world will have to continue to wait and see.
For at the moment, barring his inner circle, none of us know what the current state of Errol Spence Jr really is or what will become of his professional or personal life.
