Tyrone Spong Denies Failing Drug Test!
While amid a cheating scandal, Tyrone “King of the Ring” Spong (14-0, 13 KO’s) maintains his innocence. Spong was all set to fight former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (16-0, 12 KO’s) in his “somewhat” of a heavyweight debut on October 12. (Somewhat is the operative word because he actually started his career at heavyweight and fought heavyweights like Joe Joyce in the World Series of Boxing tournament before turning pro).
That was until Spong was flagged by VADA for having banned substances in his system. Since being deemed a drug cheat, the King of the Ring has been taken off the fight card and replaced with Chazz “The Gentleman” Witherspoon (38-3, 29 KO’s), the second cousin of two-time heavyweight champion Tim Witherspoon.
Obviously, Spong did not like having the allegations levied against him and has responded through his social media. Along with saying that he did not commit any illegal infraction, he has declared battling these allegations with every method at his disposal.
Within the same InstaGram post, he eludes to Matchroom Promotions acting in an underhand method. Spong feels that individuals at the promotional company are simply trying to manufacture a rationale for stripping him from the fight card.
Spong insists that he has just recently passed all his drug tests and therefore it’d be impossible for him to have popped dirty. He made a point to highlight the fact that Matchroom was aware that he had cleared a recent battery of administered drug tests.
In fact, the sidelined heavyweight is so confident of his innocence that he has already authorized for this B-sample to be tested. If Spong is being truthful, and the B-sample comes back negative, that will go a long way to substantiating his claims of wrong doing.
We have heard this story before form fighter who would go on to have more incriminating evidence found on them, which would turn into a confession. But is Spong telling the truth here?
Regardless of how this plays out 3kingsboxing will be sure to provide timely updates on this on going allegation.
