Eddie Hearn Credits Turki Alalshikh For Stevenson vs Zepeda
WBC lightweight champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (22-0, 10KO) will dominate WBC interim titlist William “Camaron” Zepeda (32-0, 27KO). Matchroom Boxing’s Chairman, Eddie Hearn, revealed that Saudi Arabian power player Turki Alalshikh is targeting the fight on February 22, 2025.
In this author’s opinion, Alalshikh didn’t have a sensational 2024 in delivering some of the fights fans wanted to see. Although it’s not all his fault, the fact remains going into 2025, things will need to change.
A way to bring about that change is to score a fight that fans don’t believe will happen. Fearless versus El Camaron would signal big things are ahead for 2025. While speaking on DAZN’s Ariel x Ade show, Hearn gave some possible good news to the fans.
“I think a lot of fights are agreed to in principle, and contracts have to get signed. So, we’ll leave it to His Excellency to announce. I don’t think it will be too far away…Shakur against Zepeda has already been discussed.”
THE CHAMP IS A DIFFERENT ANIMAL
Several fans believe Camaron can beat Stevenson after overcoming a knockdown to score a victory over Tevin Farmer. Anyone who believes Farmer is the same type of fighter as Fearless lives in a fantasy world. Yes, there are some similarities, but they also have huge differences.
The WBC champion’s footwork is one of the best in the sport. He can strike, then move out of the way, avoiding any return fire. In addition, Stevenson is a much better counter-puncher, and he beat a semi-pressure fighter like Zepeda in Oscar Valdez. Finally unlike Farmer who was 35 years old, Stevenson at the prime age of 27 years old.
In this author’s opinion, Zepeda’s high-octane punch output will be slowed drastically because of Stevenson’s elusive defense. Before we jump the gun, let’s hope Alalshikh can offer enough money to lure team Zepeda into taking the fight.
