Shakur Stevenson Washes Teofimo Lopez on the Cards!
When pitted against his stiffest opposition on paper, three-division champion Shakur Stevenson (25-0, 11 KO’s) shined under the bright lights. Stevenson accomplished this by moving up from 135 to 140 to face, outbox, outwit and completely undress WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (22-2, 13 KO’s).
The performance notched him a unanimous decision, with all three judges giving him the nod to the tune of 119-109. With the spoils of war, Stevenson has now taken control of the WBO 140-pound title.
From the first to the last round, in the ring, Stevenson was couch-potato comfortable. The Takeover was not able to set any manner of traps or even switch gears. Instead, the quick-twitch bruiser ate a hardy, force-fed diet of stiff jabs.
Realistically speaking, Stevenson defeated Lopez by just the controlling range and pumping his jab. By the end of the fight however, that hard-working jab had half of The Takeover’s face red, swollen and bleeding.
Following the duel, during his post-fight interview, the newly-crowned WBO champion called out Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (24-1, 14 KO’s). It will be revealing to see if this prizefight is actually contracted. Benn has competed at middleweight for his last two fights, but has fought in lower weight classes before.
