Subriel Matias Seeking a Fight with Regis Prograis

IBF junior welterweight champion Subriel “El Orgullo de Maternillo” Matias (19-1, 19KO) could be a problem for two-time champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (28-1, 24KO). If this fight happens it would give fans their money’s worth and then some. It would be a brutal war until either the final bell sounds or someone is knocked out. These are two champions whose mentality is “no give, all take”.

A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAMPION TO REGIS

Matias fresh off-stopping IBF #1 contender Jeremias Ponce, in the post-fight interview had a serious warning for the two-time champion.

“I have a message, and I want you all to spread it far and wide. Prograis, I’m coming for you, I am the world champion now, and I promise you I am going to send you to the hospital, so get ready.”

Matias has a motor that won’t quit and the willpower to match. The Puerto Rican has an aggressive, come-forward style that requires the fight to be inside a phonebooth. Furthermore, he is good at ripping off body shots and landing counters in close. Fans will counter by pointing to his lackluster performance in a close defeat to Petros Ananyan in 2020. However, he got revenge by stopping the Armenian in a thrilling rematch in 2022.

Prograis is attempting to schedule a showdown with one-time title challenger Jack Catterall. However, he was paying attention to the fight between Matias and Ponce, and wasted no time hinting at a future fight with El Orgullo de Maternillo. Furthermore, he had a response when fans asked about a possible dust-up with the newly crowned IBF champion.
