Teofimo Lopez Wants To Hand Arnold Barboza A Loss
WBO junior welterweight champion “The Takeover” Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13KO) is looking forward to being the first man to defeat Arnold Barboza Jr (32-0, 11KO) in New York City on May 2.
The Takeover was never interested in facing Barboza in the past, he considered the fight a waste of time. He has since been forced to make the fight happen considering the Californian is the mandatory challenger.
Barboza once said the goal was to force the fight to happen. He lived up to his word with a victory over Jack Catterall in a title eliminator on February 15. Furthermore, he fought at a level that surprised both fans and pundits.
HE IS READY TO GET THE WIN
With the fight set to take place, Lopez told Ring Magazine that he is ready to take away Barboza’s undefeated record.
“It’s a privilege to be here and face a guy like Arnold Barboza who is 32-0 undefeated. It will be nice to put an L on his record I tell you that much.
Lopez explained why the fight wasn’t on his radar all those years ago.
“My whole situation is I like to go after the bigger fish…I was just trying to fry some bigger fish out there and I didn’t think Arnold Barboza was one of those guys.”
HE NEEDS TO BRING HIS A GAME
Lopez must take this fight seriously cause Barboza’s overall boxing ability has improved. It’s a known fact the WBO champion struggles with boxers, hence why some boxing fans believe he got gift decisions against Jamaine Ortiz and Sandor Martin.
Barboza enters the fight enjoying a height and reach advantage. Plus he fights well behind the jab with improved defense and movement. In a fight he has been chasing for years, the time to show and prove is now.
