Keith Thurman Challenges Errol Spence to Prove He’s the Better Man
Former unified welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (30-1, 22KO) continues to call for a fight with unified champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (28-0, 22KO). The Truth made it clear he has no interest in fighting Thurman, and One Time responded with a truthful message.
HOW IT ALL STARTED
The beef between these two fighters goes back to 2017 when Spence was a top contender coming up through the ranks. As time passed, he accused Thurman of ducking him. Then, things got more intense when the former unified champion was asked about the fighting Spence and he replied saying, “Not on my to-do list.”
Fast forward to now, and it is Thurman on the outside looking in while Spence holds the label as the kingpin of the division. Furthermore, his bitterness towards Thurman never died down.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman gave Thurman good news in a recent statement. He proclaims One Time, ranked #1 by the organization, is in the mix for a fight with Spence. With the boxing world waiting for Spence to face rival WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford for undisputed, if the fight does not happen, Spence may have no choice but to face Thurman.
THURMAN’S MESSAGE TO SPENCE JR.
During an interview on The Last Stand Podcast, Thurman responded to being told of Spence’s position to move up instead of fighting him.
“With Errol, if it’s not Bud, then why not Thurman? […] I’ve walked the walk that he’s walked. At the end of the day though, your name is The Truth and the truth is you got the WBA – you ain’t seen Thurman. You took that WBC that I vacated, and you ain’t seen Thurman. That’s the truth. Stop playing!
If you got confidence, if your team has confidence, you know there is a check in it – take the check! Slap me up! Man down, man down! Be the one to defeat the undefeated Keith Thurman […] You fought who I fought, you beat who I beat, but you haven’t beaten me. That’s just the truth, period.”
“You’ve accomplished many great things without defeating Keith “One Time” Thurman.”
