Sullivan Barrera signs with ESPN/Top Rank!
It is arguable the light heavyweight division is the deepest and best overall division in the sport right now. On May 4, Artur Berterbiev made his second defense of the IBF title with a fifth round stoppage over Radivoje Kalajdzic in Stockton, California.
Along with Beterbiev, you also have the likes of WBA regular champion Dmitry Bivol, WBO champion Sergey Kovalev, WBC chmapion Oleksandr Gvozdyk. Just as well, there are top contenders Marcus Browne, Elieder Alvarez, Anthony Yarde, the popular prospect Joshua Buatsi and the division’s newest addition Gilberto Ramirez.
In short, this division is loaded!
The sheer depth and talent of the division is motivating a mad dash among television networks. The endgame being to gobble up and sign as many of the top fighters in the division as possible with the goal of making big money bouts down the road.
Another top fighter in the division worth mention is former world title challenger Sullivan Barrera. Coming off a solid win over Sean Monaghan in November 2018, 3KingsBoxing has learned the 37-year old from Cuba has signed with ESPN/Top Rank and will make his debut for the promotional company on June 8th.
ESPN will televise Barrera’s fight with Michael Seals on the undercard of Oscar Valdez vs Erik Ituarte.
With his only losses coming to Andre Ward and the aforementioned Bivol, Barrera remains a top contender as he is currently ranked #2 and #11 by the WBA and IBF respectively, as well as #6 by the WBC and WBO.
