Oleksandr Usyk officially vacates the WBO title!

On June 6, the WBO formally acknowledged that their cruiserweight “champion in recess” Oleksandr Usyk has vacated his belt and is moving to the heavyweight division. As previously reported by 3kingsboxing , Krysztof Glowacki was already slated to face Mairis Briedis for the then-vacant WBO cruiserweight title. However, now that Usyk has solidified his plan to move up, the WBO recognizes Glowacki as the cruiserweight champion.

Glowacki will still collide with Briedis, ranked #2 by the WBO, on June 15 as previously scheduled. Instead of fighting for the vacant title, however, the June 15 prizefight will function as Glowacki’s first title defense.

Who against, or when, Usyk will have his first fight at heavyweight is as yet undetermined.
