Emiliano Vargas Gets TKO Over Bryce Mills; Seeks to Cash In on World Ranking
In his second duel of the year, super lightweight contender Emiliano “El General” Vargas (18-0, 15 KO’s) claimed his second stoppage victory of 2026. Vargas pulled this feat off by dismantling a very game Bryce Mills (22-2, 9 KO’s).
Currently Vargas, 22, is ranked #2 (WBO), #12 (WBA), #13 (IBF) and #14 (WBC) and has his mind set on a championship. During his post-fight interview, Vargas did not place a target on any specific backs. Although he did let it be known that he is focused on hunting down a belt soon.
“I want a former world champion next or a title eliminator next. I know I am ready, you know the sky is the limit. All I am going to do is put myself in the right position, keep putting God first and doors will open.”
In this duel with Mills, Vargas picked up the WBC USA silver and WBO Latin super lightweight titles. While these are secondary titles, it will be interesting to see if he can work his position with either sanctioning body to finagle a title fight. With the WBO title under control of Shakur Stevenson, it’s unlikely to foresee Vargas, at this fledgling level of his career, snagging that match.
On the other hand, the WBC super lightweight title is held by UK pugilist Dalton Smith, with Issac “Pitbull” Cruz holding the interim WBC 140-pound title. While there is no guarantee Vargas could score these duels, Smith and Cruz would seemingly be far more feasible than a Shakur Stevenson rumble. So, let’s wait and see what Team Vargas has next for El General.
