Figueroa and Cordova’s High Paced Scrap Ends in Sour Draw
Following twelve high-energy rounds of professional violence, flyweight fighters Yankiel “El Doctorcito” Figueroa (7-0-1, 3 KO’s) and Angelino “Huracan” Cordova (19-0-2, 12 KO’s) fought to an unsatisfactory majority draw. This was further complicated by the fact that Cordova was put down in the fourth and deducted a point for rabbit punching.
With the match in the books, both fighters are left to decide on their next move. At this current time, Figueroa is ranked #1 (WBA) while Cordova is ranked #2 (WBA). Given how their showdown wrapped up, it would not be a far-fetched idea for them to simply square off with one another once again and try to crown an official victor.
If neither have a taste for this course of action, then they could pursue a prizefight with WBC and WBA flyweight champion Ricardo Sandoval (27-2, 18 KO’s). Sandoval was last in action this past July 30 when he collected a split decision win over Kenshiro Teraji. Yet, for the time being, we will have to wait and see what is next for Teams Figueroa and Cordova as they navigate past this unsavory outcome.
