An Available Teofimo Lopez Continues Dodging Keyshawn Davis
At the present moment, WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (21-1, 13 KO’s) has no fight lined up. He launched a campaign of pre-civil rights bigotry to pursue matches with lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and three-division champion Terence Crawford. Despite his tactics getting him nothing but ostracized, Lopez completely ignores a potential duel with Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (12-0, 8 KO’s).
Davis is coming off a sensational win over Gustavo Lemos, who he demolished in two withering rounds. Without question, the impressive showing has shined a brand new spotlight on The Businessman. Well before this showing with Lemos however, Davis made it blatantly known that he was hunting a dance date with Lopez. With this being the case, now would seem like the perfect time. So what is the hold-up?
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE LATELY?
Both of the fighters have big names as far as boxing fans are concerned and quite frankly, Davis has the better buzz right now. Sure, Lopez is a two-division, unified champion and has notched wins over Richard Commey, Vasily Lomachenko and Josh Taylor. But as of late, The Takeover is turning in more stinker performances than anything else. And his distasteful tactics outside the ring are not helping his case or profile at all.
On the flipside, Davis has not even challenged for a belt but is a decorated amateur, Olympic silver medalist and is being fast-tracked as a pro. Thus far in the ring, The Businessman has remained dynamic and he and Lopez come with a genuinely gripping backstory. Even better, the final cherry on top is the fact that they are both Top Rank fighters.
MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
On the outside looking in, it does not appear that Lopez is shifting through a bunch of juicy contracts. If that is truly the case, then what could possibly be the reason to look past a gift horse staring him in the teeth? Davis is a hot name on a visible win streak, coming off a great win and represents a big payday. So, if this is not a great possibility, the boxing public will need Teofimo Lopez to tell us why not and who else is lined up.
