Anthony Yigit comes in overweight

Ahead of Anthony “Can You Dig It” Yigit’s (24-1-1, 8 KO’s) next bout, there was notable conversation about his weight and inactivity. The Swedish fighter had not competed professionally in over two years and he was dropping down from super lightweight. Technically we’ll have to wait and see if any ring rust is an issue but the weight has already come into play.

When he and Interim WBA World lightweight champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero (13-0, 11 KO’s) stepped on the scales, Yigit came in at 140.5 pounds which is five full pounds overweight. As a result, even if victorious, Dig It cannot claim Rolando Romero’s interim title. Romero satisfied his weight requirements by coming in at 135 pounds even.

From the very moment that Anthony Yigit was slid in as the replacement, his assignment was viewed as an uphill battle. Considering how last minute he was called in, Dig It very well may never have attempted to make weight. Perhaps he felt as though saving that energy and effort would pay off come fight night. Or, maybe Yigit did try to make the limit and simply fell grossly short. In either event, the fight is on and a winner will be crowned in short order.
