Xander Zayas Easily Devours and Stops Alessio Mastronunzio in One!
Unsurprisingly, super welterweight fighter Xander Zayas (12-0, 9 KO’s) conquered his latest opponent to keep his professional ledger unblemished. Zayas, 19, achieved this feat by stopping the previously once-defeated boxer Alessio Mastronunzio (9-2, 3 KO’s) in the first round of their brief scrimmage.
The bout was the first in America for Italian import Mastronunzio. This was the sixth scalp collected by the extremely active Zayas in 2021. Signed to Top Rank, the future for the hot ticket fighter is extraordinarily bright. It will be interesting to see how he is moved in 2022, however. Will Top Rank continue to sharpen his teeth on easily digestible opposition or will he have a significant step up bout? Either way, it should be a fun ride as Zayas continues to evolve as a professional.
VERY EASY WORK
Roughly thirteen seconds into the first round, Zayas dumped the Italian on the floor with a pinpoint right hook. Mastonunzio got up quickly and showed no major ill effects. For the next minute or so, and then with about 85 seconds on the clock, Zayas unleashed a brutal assault.
The Puerto Rican phenomenon clobbered his woefully overmatched foe with every punch in the book. Zayas landed numerous uppercuts, hooks, straights and air-stealing body shots. He continued to reduce Mastronunzio to a bobble-head until the third man in the ring called an end to the massacre. This was a great showcase fight for the rising talent and star.
