Zewski to Face Ali Funeka on Stevenson-Gvozdyk card
Respected Canadian contender Mikael Zewski (31-1, 22KOs) returns to the ring on the under-card of Stevenson vs Gvozdyk December 1. His opponent will be cagey 40 year-old veteran, Ali Funeka.
This will be another step up fight for Zewski who didn’t fare well in a previous one against Konstantin Ponomarev in May 2015. However, he’s on a five fight win streak since that loss.
Funeka ironically lost five consecutive fights with his last win coming back in July of 2016 against Justice Addy. He is well known; sharing the ring with Joan Guzman, Nate Campbell, Jeff Horn and many others throughout his career.
While he’s clearly past his prime, Funeka still presents a challenge having only been stopped twice in fifty plus fights. A win here for Zewski could catapult him up the WBC welterweight rankings, putting him closer to a title shot down the road.
