Alycia Baumgardner Targeting Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano
After quelling her latest threat, unified super featherweight champion Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner (18-1, 7 KO’s) has called out Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano and Katie Taylor. Baumgardner safely defended her titles against Bo Mi Re Shin (19-4-3, 10 KO’s). Shin proved to be a very determined and relentless, if not a bit feral at times, adversary. The South Korean pushed Baumgardner quite a bit despite the wide 98-92 (twice) and 99-91 unanimous decision loss.
When probed in her post-fight interview about future dance partners, Baumgardner brought up Serrano and Taylor. Of the two, the greater emphasis appeared to be placed on two-division champion Katie Taylor (25-1, 6 KO’s).
Regardless of the interest on their side, Taylor has been out of action for nearly a full calendar year following her back-to-back duels with the aforementioned Amanda Serrano. Turning 40 in July, there is no guarantee that Katie Taylor sticks around long enough to entertain that match. Serrano is still a very active fighter. However, she already has a May 30 showdown scheduled with Cheyenne “Pepper” Hanson (17-2, 13 KO’s).
NOT OUT OF OPTIONS
One opponent that is very available to her, and one that the fans have worked into a lather about, is WBC and WBO lightweight champion Caroline “Sweet Caroline” Dubois (13-0-1, 5 KO’s). Dubois, a capable and fun fighter, has repeatedly called for the dustup with Baumgardner to no avail. No matter how frequently Sweet Caroline expresses interest, The Bomb snubs her. In fact, she has so aggressively swerved Dubois that there is a large, and growing, mass of fans who believe Baumgardner is fearful of and openly ducking the UK talent.
One thing is for sure, if Baumgardner can’t secure either Serrano or Taylor, and continues to refuse Dubois, her next foe better be stellar! If not, this expanding narrative of her tucking tail around Dubois is sure to grow. Especially if she maintains that calling out fighters outside her weight class is good for her, but not her pursuers.
