Angelo Leo Calls For A Fight With Rafael Espinoza Or Naoya Inoue
Newly crowned IBF featherweight champion Angelo “El Chinito” Leo (25-1, 12KO) wants unification with WBO champion Rafael “El Divino” Espinoza (25-0, 21KO) or undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya “Monster” Inoue (27-0, 24KO) next.
On August 10, El Chinito scored a knockout that had the boxing world buzzing last night against one-time champion Luis Lopez. Leo fought like a madman and surprised the boxing public with his extremely aggressive nature from the opening bell. In a close back-and-forth dogfight, Leo landed a left hook that ended the night in round ten.
HE WANTS A BIG FIGHT NEXT
Now a two-division champion, Leo wasted no time stating what could be next during the in-ring post-fight interview
“I want to fight all the champions. Whether it be Rafael Espinoza for a unification, Naoya Inoue, or whoever it may be.”
The featherweight division is rich with big-fight possibilities. When looking at the landscape, either of the names Leo mentioned would pack the arena with fans. El Divino dropped out of nowhere to score a victory over one-time champion Robiesy Ramirez in 2023. In his last outing, the Mexican obliterated Sergio Chirino in four rounds.
A top pound-for-pound fighter, Monster is well-known throughout the boxing public. Inoue could move up into the division, and a fight with Leo would be another all-action affair. The undisputed champion is due to defend his titles against one-time IBF title holder TJ Doheny in September.
Top Ranks CEO Bob Arum called him a generational talent. With all three champions under the same umbrella, making these fights a reality wouldn’t be that hard.
Leo is beaming with confidence and has transformed himself into a different fighter. One thing for certain, he isn’t afraid to put it all on the line.
