Daniel Dubois Stops Anthony Joshua in Five
For his first title defense, IBF heavyweight champion “Dynamite” Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KO’s) knocked out two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (28-4, 25 KO’s) in a five-round thriller.
Largely viewed as the underdog, Dubois took immediate control of the ring. He went straight at Joshua and repeatedly clocking him with a head-snapping jab. Dynamite swiftly incorporated heavy follow-up shots that left AJ frazzled, compromised and without answers. As a result, Joshua was floored in the first, third, fourth and finally fifth round.
Ironically, after operating primarily off the back foot in perplexed fashion, Joshua hammered Dubois with a right to the jaw and seemingly bothered him with the blow. When AJ flew in for the kill, he was met with a short, sharp right hook flush on the chin. The tight crunching punch left the former champion splayed out with his head bobbing on the bottom rope. Joshua would attempt to rise, but would not have beaten a count of thirty. He was counted out by referee Marcus McDonnell in the fifth.
This is a huge win for Dubois who is now on a three-fight knockout streak.
