Arum Eyes Potential Crawford v Pacquiao Fight In Middle East
A fight that has been talked about for at least three or four years now is still continuing to be talked about. That fight is a unification welterweight showdown between future hall of famer and current WBA champion Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao and WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford.
Pacquiao, who’s no longer with Top Rank, always seemed reluctant to square off with Crawford when the two were under the same promotional banner. Fast forward a couple of years later and things have seemingly changed. Having had his career rejuvenated with an upset win over previously unbeaten former unified welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman last July, the aging great seems to want to go for more glory against a potentially even tougher foe in Crawford.
WHERE WOULD THEY FIGHT?
Speaking to IFL TV, Bob Arum discussed a possible Middle Eastern showdown between the champions.
“Dan’s (Kinahan) has been handling all of that, you know, major fights that we would like to do. Like for example a Pacquiao-Crawford fight, which Dan has been working on. He’s been a real rock for us in seeding and going through proposals and seeing what’s real and not real.”
Obviously, if Arum is able to secure a fight between Pacquiao and Crawford, that would be viewed as a mega fight. A Middle Eastern showdown wouldn’t come as a surprise, as Arum has showcased three Pacquiao bouts in his time as his promoter outside of the United States. He fought Brandon Rios and Chris Algieri in 2013 and 2014 respectively in Macao, China, and more recently Jeff Horn in Australia in 2017.
Regardless of the location of the fight, let’s hope that a deal can be reached to see these two great champions clash.
