Alycia Baumgardner Outpunches Jennifer Miranda; Persoon Next?
Snapping nearly a full calendar year of inactivity, undisputed super featherweight champion Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner (16-1, 7 KO’s) out-fought challenger Jennifer Miranda to claim a unanimous victory. Despite the UD, Baumgardner had to work notably hard to secure this win.
It will be interesting to see who The Bomb opts to dance with next. One seemingly glaring choice is rematching former in-ring foe Delfine Persoon. The two fought to an unsatisfactory no contest due to Persoon suffering an early cut. The accidental clash of heads would cause the match to be halted in the fourth period.
To her credit, since the no-contest, Persoon has scored a June 22 TKO win over Ana Lozano. It’d be hard to believe that the Belgian boxer would not be keen for a shot to clean up the fight and collect Baumgardner’s quartet of titles in the process. That is a hard combo meal to push back across the counter.
So, let’s see what’s in store next for Baumgardner and her title run. Will it be Persoon or someone else? Only time will tell.
