Yuriorkis Gamboa returns against former 3x WBO champion Roman Martinez!

3kingsboxing has learned of a fight between former world champions Yuriorkis Gamboa and Roman Martinez.

Gamboa has had lots of ups and downs in his career. The former pound-for-pound boxer has been plagued with inactivity, along with promotional issues.

Things seem to have turned around when Golden Boy Promotions signed the Cuban Gold Medalist back in 2017. However, what would follow two two subpar performances victories against Alexis Reyes and Jason Sosa was a devastating loss to rugged journeyman Robinson Castellanos.

This would ultimately lead to his release from Golden Boy in 2018.

The 37-year old signed with Premier Boxing Champions in February 2019. This match is his debut under the brand and one where he hopes to revitalize his career.

Roman “Rocky” Martinez is more known for his devastating knockout losses to superstars Mikey Garcia and Vasyl Lomachenko than for his boxing accolades.

The 36-year old Puerto Rican three-time world champion is perhaps on the downside of his career as well. Back in 2016, a crushing defeat by Lomachenko would lead to a three-year hiatus from boxing.

He made a return in March 2019 with a victory over William Gonzalez. This could be his “last hoorah” at another title.

This is a must-win scenario for both former champions, with a defeat sure to signify the end for one of these combatants.

The contest is on schedule to take place July 27 in Baltimore, Maryland on the under-card title fight between WBA champion Gervonta Davis vs Ricardo Nuñez.
